Cardinal Gibbons HS, one of about 40 schools the Archdiocese of Baltimore closed in 2010, is for sale. Notable because these buildings housed St. Mary's Industrial School, a reform school/orphanage where Babe Ruth played his 1st organized baseball, and known as "The House that Built Ruth". Included in the sale are all the original buildings, as well as Babe Ruth Field, the original baseball field dating to the early 1900s.
Luckily, Baltimore's other favorite son, Cal Ripken Jr., has stepped in with the money to preserve the field.
