Our local radio station here in Seguin (KWED) also publishes a daily local news shopper (32 pgs) and has a web site; they just added a new football coverage section:

The local newspaper (Seguin Gazette Enterprise) also has a special football website for the local teams (although I would question their wisdom, since they're asking me to be the "stringer" for Lifegate football this year):

When you're talking with your hometown media, give them an idea to emulate some of this ...
