Former CO 6-man player wins National Championship in Germany

I thought I'd pass this along.

Jan Zalm, a German exchange student who started as an offensive and defensive end for me at Vilas, CO in 2005 has recently won a National Championship with the Maastricht Wildcats. It is a full contact 11-man American football team, and for the last 2 years he has started as a slot WR and a gunner on special teams. There are 6 leagues competing for the national championship, as there are no professional leagues in Germany as we know them. Some teams pay a small stipend, or gas money, but as Jan told me they play because "it's all about the sport". Jan and his teammates will receive their championship rings this coming Saturday. Prior to playing 6-man at Vilas, Jan had never played American football.
