 Re: what would it mean?
the private vs public matchup is something that will forever be a hot topic. the problem with private schools is that its hard to get a team that is as devoted and flat out as obsessed with football as alot of these public school kids are. the power publics seem to be able to breed football players, while private schools often put all their hope into one player who either gets injured or graduates and then that team is forced to rebuild. this style of play where the program is constantly full of devoted football players has been seen in the private school leagues before. most recently greenville, rockwall, and covenant. not for a couple of years for the first two, but these programs are constantly losing star players, yet finding ways to replace them with very minimal loss. this quality ultimately comes back to the coaches, and is what makes public schools like rs so dominant, so consistently. private schools just need more of this mindset to be able to compete with these high quality public schools.

Sounds like Austin Hill Country had a good game with Richland Springs. They played a full game...not too many make that claim.

 Re: what would it mean?
I've said before that the difference between public school and private school sixman football is this ...
Public school sixman plays football because they have to ... it's their only choice between football or no football and in many ways, the lifeline of their town is tied up in their school and their football team (this is Texas, after all...)
Private school sixman plays football because we want to ... we want the kids to have the experience of playing football. But there are a lot of successful small private schools (well, maybe less than before because so many of us are now playing) that don't -- and won't -- be adding football anytime soon.
All that being said, from what I hear, AHCC led 16-0 after a quarter, one of their better players (#12?) not playing, and went 40 minutes against Richland Springs. Plus, the diversion of the Austin/Steiner Ranch wildfires, very close to the AHCC campus this week ... A loss is a loss, I guess, but I wouldn't have left that field thinking that I didn't give it their best shot if I were AHCC.

 Re: what would it mean?
Saw the Hill Country/Richland Springs game. Correct, Hill Country was up 16-0 at end of first quarter. Hill Country was pretty fired up and it appeared as though Richland had not played against an offense like Hill Country's before. But, Richland made adjustments both offensively and defensively, kept plugging away, and didn't make mistakes. In comparison, Hill Country gave the ball away 3 or 4 times on interceptions or fumbles, and I think that made a big difference. Overall Richland is a very good team, they have probably 3 kids who are playmakers. If Hill Country's passing was more consistent they would be very tough for any team to beat. Their # 11 made a couple great catches, but not sure why they didn't try to get the ball to him more often.
I think a Bulverde Bracken vs. Richland Springs game would be just as close, as not closer, as Bracken at this point in the season has better playmakers and protects the ball better than Hill Country.
