Ran across this on Yahoo. They had hired Ty Detmer as head coach.

do they play six man? and they are a private school, kind of like Hyde Park B. they just build teams and might educate a few kids along the way.

The school is Austin St. Andrews, and they belong to a league known as the "Southwest Preparatory Conference," a league of somewhere around 15-20 schools in Texas and Oklahoma (not part of TAPPS). These are what are considered to be the "elite" (their definition, not mine) prep schools in the state.

The talk is that SPC has always been somewhat fast-and-loose with recruiting rules. I was told the league does not accept senior transfers, but does allow you to reclassify a kid as a junior so they can be eligible. I haven't seen the rules, so I could be wrong.

In this case, the St. Andrews coach(es) on a trip to American Samoa made the major-league STUPID decision to let someone put an article in the paper there offering football scholarships by specific positions. Maybe in the pre-internet days, nobody would have heard of this, but today, you can pull up an article from the Transylvania Times anywhere in the world with the possible exceptions of North Korea, China and Iran.

Even SPC had to hit them with a 3 year penalty. Kinda like a bank robber writing his stickup note on his deposit slip.

Yes, this is a strange one... I worked there from 92-94 (no high school yet-and none planned at the time)

An ex-student of mine works there (as do several friends) and I had heard about this during the summer (or even earlier). It seemed a bit odd at the time... reading the stories the past few weeks it was just idiotic

What is the saying? Keep Austin weird? Sounds like someone is trying. Mack needs to go get some Samoans or somebody.
