Realignment question

Postby WindthorstFan3 » Thu Apr 20, 2017 8:07 pm

UIL procedure states:
Schools with an enrollment of 104.9 or lower may choose to participate in Conference A football (six-man football) or may opt to play in Conference AA football (eleven-man football) but remain in Conference A for other applicable activities (see #6 below).Schools desiring to participate in Conference A may submit enrollment figures by any one of the following combinations of grades: grades 9, 10, 11 and 12; grades 8, 9, 10 and 11; grades 7, 8, 9 and 10; or grades 9 and 10 doubled.

That seems a bit jacked up to me as a school could report 88 students when they currently have 106.
So a school that wants to participate in 6-man can find the best way to keep them under 104.9?

Looking at an ISD currently on the TEA Enrollment website has the following students
2017 Grade 6 (2018 Grade 7) 20
2017 Grade 7 (2018 Grade 8) 26
2017 Grade 8 (2018 Grade 9) 27
2017 Grade 9 (2018 Grade 10) 17
2017 Grade 10 (2018 Grade 11) 36
2017 Grade 11 (2018 Grade 12) 26

Grades 9-12 106
Grades 8-11 106
Grades 7-10 90
Grades 9-10 doubled 88

2017 Grade 10 (2018 Grade 11) 36
2017 Grade 11 (2018 Grade 12) 26

Grades 9-12 106
Grades 8-11 106
Grades 7-10 90
Grades 9-10 doubled 88

Grades 9-10 doubled still comes to 106 by my math calculations:

17x2 = 34
36x2 = 72
Total = 106

Or
17+36 = 53 x 2 = 106

Looks like Windthorsts' enrollment is on a downward slide. You guys might be back in 6 man in the very near future.

I think this is a good method -- the benefit I see is if you're a 6 man program (and have been, or will be) -- you don't want to switch back & forth with each alignment when you are on the verge... Or, if you happen to have one large class -- you don't want that to bump your program to the other side, just to switch back 2 years later...

You never know!!! Although looking at the TEA enrollment site we seem to average around 30 kids. Current Grades 1-4 have 110 students but the kindergarten class has 33!!! Hopefully if we do wind up playing 6 man we can have a better showing than we did a couple of years ago against Throckmorton!!! Granted they were probably the best 6 man team in the Nation.

2017 Grade 10 (2018 Grade 11) 36
2017 Grade 11 (2018 Grade 12) 26

Grades 9-12 106

I was assuming these counts stay the same for 2017-2018 school year so this years 8-9 would be next years 9-10.

2017 Grade 8 (2018 Grade 9) 27
2017 Grade 9 (2018 Grade 10) 17
27x2 = 54
17 x 2 = 34
Total = 88

After the fact I got to thinking why they do this!!!
