 Re: Rumor?
Don't know much about the Ira-WV game last year, and really...kind of water under the bridge.
But I do know how to go from the playoffs to the cellar in 1 easy step: put a revolving door on the coaches office.
The seniors playing for the Silverton Owls started this season with the fourth head football coach in four seasons. Five seasons ago they were playing in the state semi-finals. They narrowly missed the playoffs the next season, and over the last two seasons have won only one game on the field (not going to count a forfeit as a win in this case).
Hopefully, the situation in WV is an anomaly. But Silverton is a prime example of what can happen.

 Re: Rumor?
Silverton is not alone in the revolving door policy. Perhaps if coaches signed a 5 yr. deal, they could then either, be forced to build, or allowed to build a tradition of success. JMHO

JMHO In all honesty, two of the coaches should have never been allowed near a whistle to begin with. A lot of the fault lies with the school board. A lot of the fault lies with the administration, and a lot of the fault lies with the parents. If all three groups would ever get on the same page, then there would a higher quality of coach hired to begin with, and angry, petty parents would not be allowed to run him off. As it turns out, Silverton has all three on completely separate pages. Heck - they aren't even reading the same book. I heard the assistant coach they have this year is a keeper. Let's see if the powers that be can do that.

 Re: Rumor?
I see where WV has announced the head football coaching vacancy. I don't know what's going on out there but I thought Owens was a damn good coach. I wish him luck wherever he ends up.

 Re: Rumor?
I heard that the valley was dropping football and becoming a volleyball only school. Any truth to that?

Was messaged by a WV patron that those numbers inlude two campuses and that the main campus was less. Still adds up to a hundred and means that next year they will play 6 man with 109.

 Re: Rumor?
I am incorrect, but do they not have to count the State school or whatever it is at Carlsbad? I heard that was the basis of the waiver, but hey could be wrong. Have been before.

 Re: Rumor?
That's pretty clever West Texas Sixmaner, you write your own jokes or do you contract that out?
There seems to be lots of preoccupation with the number of students at WV. I don't know how they count 'em up but I know WV is playing 6-man for the next two years at least and I'd like to see that continue. We went the 11-man route for awhile without too much success - matter of fact, we got the $h!t kicked out of us pretty regularly - so I'd just as soon stay 6-man if it's all the same to y'all.

 Re: Rumor?
Not saying that this is true, but a friend in the Valley said that current coach was tired of "basketball first" attitude. Not sure I get that since the boys BB team stumbled in Abilene...maybe the VB girls could give some lessons in how to get over the hump....just sayin'.

Actually, it was mentioned last year, that WV was going BB school cuz of the new Admin. and their kids. Can't say he wasn't warned.

 Re: Rumor?
It is my understanding that coach Owens family is doing poorly and he is leaving to be closer to family and take care of family business. Just what I was told. The best way to know is call coach Owens and ask him.
